Federal Law to regulate affairs of mosques on the anvil

Recent reports quote Dr. Mohammed Mattar Al Ka’abi, Director-General of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Auqaf (GAIAA), that the UAE Cabinet will soon issue a federal law to regulate and govern affairs of mosques in the country.

The reports quote Dr. Al Ka’abi further as follows:

The proposed legislation will settle and clear all issues concerning mosques, their role, working systems, rights and duties of their staff and their liability before the judiciary.

The law sets deterrent penalties for those flouting and breaking the GAIAA’s instructions on the functioning of mosques.

The law explicitly stipulates a series of stiff punishments that can amount up to imprisonment and fine to deter unauthorized persons from meddling in mosque related affairs. The law obliges prayer leaders and preachers to adhere strictly to their assigned duties.
